Workplacerating.com is a website that provides comprehensive news, articles and resources about worker's rights and workplace issues.

Workplacerating.com offers an advertisement to convince people the importance of educating children about bullying.

This advertisement uses audiences’ pathos in order to carry out their message.

The image of a small and thin boy being bullied by bigger boy creates the feel of pity among audiences. Especially, small boy seems to be very upset and nervous by being bullied by bigger boy. Therefore, the image of the advertisement gather attention of audiences as it clearly shows the problem of bullying at school.

This advertisement is more effective than other similar advertisement because this ad goes further from bullying at school.

In most cases, this kind of advertisement only proposes the problem of bullying at school or among children. However, the advertisement not only shows the problem of bullying at school but also bullying at workplace. This is unique because it conveys the message of workplace bullying from school bullying. For example, the advertisement conveys the message “Do School Bullies Grow up to be Workplace Bullies?” This message clearly shows the connection between workplace bullying and school bullying. This message makes audiences to consider the importance of school education in preventing bullying among children which will affect workplace bullying (childrens’ future).

“The Injured Workers Support Network” offers a cartoon which well represents a central problem of workplace bullying.

In this cartoon, there is a boss and his subordinate. Although the boss answers the phone that he would not tolerate workplace bullying, he is the one who actually bullying his subordinate. The target of this cartoon is all workers, especially those who are in high status such as boss and managers. This cartoon attracts audiences’ pathos as it clearly shows a central problem of workplace bullying. The problem of workplace bullying is that the people who have responsibility to deal with workplace bullying are actually bulling their subordinates. However, as those bosses are representative to talk with outsiders, the workplace bullying would not be revealed by outsiders. In addition, subordinates are often unable to claim their situation to others because bullies are their bosses and they have power to affect to victims’ job promotion. In the cartoon, the subordinate do not claim the contradiction of what boss says and does, even though he is in front of the phone. The subordinate seems to be very afraid of his boss. Therefore, this cartoon effectively claims the central problem of workplace bullying by showing irony in the cartoon.

Today I would like to introduce an advertisement that suggests people the way to solve workplace bullying.

This poster is effective in appealing audiences’ pathos and ethos. Although they have only one weakpoint, they will succeed to introduce audiences the way to solve workplace bullying.
Audiences can clearly understand the purpose of this advertisement since they place their message on the top of the page.
This advertisement effectively appeals to audiences' pathos by the image of suffering people. Seeing victims suffering from workplace bullying enables people to imagine what is workplace can result in. In addition, audiences may be able to connect to their workplace and those victims’ picture because they may witness bullying.
The poster also appeals to audiences’ ethos with information of participants, community partner and funding.  They also offer a picture of woman who is professor of sociology department and is dealing with workplace bullying. Such information makes this poster reliable because audiences can become familiar and cooperative to supporters.
They offer various information they want to convey in the advertisement. However, the information might be too much for an advertisement.  As a result, the information is in very small fonts so that audiences face difficulty in reading it. Hence, as an advertisement, they should select information for this advertisement.
Therefore, the poster can appeal to audiences’ emotion and make them supportive with credibility. If they could be selective to the information, the advertisement would be more effective in offering the way to deal with workplace bullying.
